- The Joyce Community Education Foundation remains a support system for all Crescent students. Throughout the Covid closures, online learning and the return to classroom instruction, the JCEF brought resources directly to where they were needed the most.
- Inspiring a new generation of learners can present challenges even without the pandemic. But one thing the pandemic accomplished was giving us all the opportunity to see how we could work together and accomplish our goals in spite of set-backs. In short, we have sought to create purpose driven students, who see their challenges as opportunities to learn.
- Additionally, funds were used to purchase shoes, clothing, and supplies for students. Providing snacks and take-home meals has been an integral part of taking care of our community families. When kids are well-fed they do better and feel better too.
- The largest support system in place is the academic support that helped Crescent students return to classrooms with hope and excitement. Many students throughout the school have been lagging behind in reading and math. This was tackled head-on in the elementary level with Accelerated Reading & Math (see sidebar). In the older grades, some after school clubs were formed, like the Technology Club (see photo below) to interest students in science and technology. A knitting club was started to students could learn a new skill while listening to books.
